About PE Monkeys

Inspiring movement, confidence and a love of PE

Built around the children we teach

PE Monkeys was founded with a simple mission. To give every child the very best start in physical activity, PE and sport, no matter their setting or starting point.

We work with playgroups, nurseries and primary schools across the North East, delivering high quality lessons that follow the national curriculum for PE. Our lessons develop the fundamental movement skills that underpin a lifetime of healthy, confident activity.

Every class is planned, safe and full of fun. Because when children enjoy moving, they keep moving.

A PE Monkeys PE lesson

Our indoor and outdoor lessons focus on the fundamental movement skills that set children up for a lifetime of physical activity.

Core Strength

Building the stability and posture that supports every other movement, indoors or out.

Balance & Coordination

Developing body awareness so children can move with confidence in any environment.

Agility

Quick, controlled movement that prepares children for sport, play and everyday adventures.

Spatial Awareness

Understanding where the body is in space, a key building block for both gross and fine motor skills.

Teamwork

Cooperation, turn taking and shared celebration build social and emotional wellbeing.

Confidence & Enjoyment

Every lesson is designed so children leave smiling, proud of what they have achieved.

The coaches behind the smiles

Our qualified, friendly team are the heart of every PE Monkeys lesson.

Matt Lawn

Owner & Lead Teacher

My passion for sport has shaped both my personal and professional journey. After spending two years in the United States coaching a range of sports, I returned to the UK to complete a degree in Sports Coaching and Management. For the past 15 years, I have worked in primary education, delivering high-quality PE lessons and supporting staff development to enhance physical education across the school. Alongside this, I founded Football Squirts, a programme that has introduced more than 5,000 children to football through fun, engaging, and inclusive sessions. Away from work, I am a proud husband and father to my five-year-old son, Brodie. Family life is never dull with Brodie and our mischievous dog, Hugo, keeping us busy. In my spare time, I enjoy running, catching up with friends, and enjoying good food.
